Psalm 91 Verse 14

Psalm 91:14 Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.

Making Jesus the Lord of my life was the most significant, life changing decision I have made. It happened as I was reading a book that asked the question, “Who is your lord?” Then the author answered the question for me with, “Who you think about the most, who you talk about the most, that is your lord.” As I read those words, I immediately had a vision of an ordered list of the most important things in my life. My husband was first, my baby was second and Jesus was number eight on my list. I looked at the list and said within my heart, “That’s not right, I make Jesus first.”  In that moment, I set my love on Him; He was now on the top of my list. That decision changed my life forever.

We decide where we set our heart; it is our decision. Let’s look at some scriptures that talk about setting our heart. Isaiah 26:3 tells us God will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. 1 Chronicles 22:19 says, “Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God;” Psalm 62:10 tells us if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

People set their hearts, their love, their affection all the time. A young teen set his heart on getting a car, a young man set his heart on the woman he wants to marry. A couple sets their heart on a baby or a new home. Some people set their heart on a career. When we set our heart on something, all of our thoughts and efforts are also set on it. In my life I needed the Holy Spirit to show me where the affection of my heart was set. Praise the Lord, He granted me repentance. I changed my mind. I changed the direction of my heart and I set my love upon Him. I made Jesus my Lord.

The next part of Psalm 91:14 says, “therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high.” Can you think of any correlating scriptures to this statement? Here are a few. Colossians 1:13 tells us, “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,” Ephesians 2:6 explains how God who is rich in mercy has raised us up and made us to sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

The last part of Psalm 91:14 says, “because he has known My name” Before Jesus, no man called God his Father, but now, because we are in Christ Jesus, we know him as “Abba, Father.”  We know His Name. See Romans 8:15, For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” and Galatians 4:6 tells us because we are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”

The first time I prayed after making Jesus the Lord of my life, I automatically addressed God as “Father.” I knew He was now my Father; the Spirit of God had communicated to my spirit that I was now a child of God (Romans 8:16). I knew His name, He is my “Abba, Father.” Abba is an Aramaic term for Father as an affectionate expression of love and dependency of a child for their daddy or papa.

If you have never made Jesus the Lord of your life, now is the time. Colossians 2:6 tells us the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation.
